Strengthening inspection and maintenance can prolong the service life of the battery, ensure that the battery meets the design requirements, and judge whether the battery needs to be replaced according to reasonable battery inspection procedures. Due to the different use needs of batteries, the inspection and maintenance procedures also have different emphases. Battery maintenance requires professional training and attention to safety.


General battery inspection is carried out under floating charge. Compare the field data with the manufacturer's operating instructions, and the field data should be saved and compared with the later data. We recommend that:


(1) in the acceptance stage after the initial installation, a capacity test shall be carried out. The internal resistance, floating charge voltage, capacity and other parameters of the new battery with good quality are stored in the intelligent detector as the baseline data of the battery.


(2) use the battery pack parameter online monitor to detect the floating charge voltage and internal resistance of the battery cell once a month; Check the battery housing and connectors. It must be ensured that the floating charge terminal voltage of each battery in the battery pack is in the correct range. In case of abnormal internal resistance, high / low floating charge voltage, shell deformation and connector corrosion, it shall be handled according to the instructions or proposed to the manufacturer. High floating charge voltage leads to accelerated corrosion and water loss of the battery, resulting in early capacity failure of the battery. Therefore, the low floating charge voltage of VRLA battery is considered to be one of the ways to prevent the early failure of VRLA battery.


(3) check whether the connecting bolts of the pole post are loose every half a year or often, clean the dust on the battery, especially the dust on the pole post and connecting strip, prevent battery leakage or grounding, and observe whether the appearance of the battery is abnormal. If there is any abnormality, deal with it in time.


(4) discharge capacity once a year or every two years. If there is insufficient capacity, it shall be handled in time. The capacity checking discharge in important occasions shall be carried out once every six months or three months. Special attention: many battery maintenance personnel only discharge for a short time without deep discharge during regular discharge. When the discharge is less than 60%, the problem of battery capacity decline is difficult to be reflected in the terminal voltage.


(5) the discharge current should not be too large, and short circuit discharge should be avoided. When discharging, the terminal voltage of the battery shall not be lower than the termination voltage to prevent the over discharge of the battery from reducing the performance and shortening the service life of the battery.


(6) it is not recommended to charge evenly at ordinary times. After battery discharge or accident power failure, the management personnel shall go to the battery room in time to check the charging current of the charger to prevent excessive charging current or out of control. Proper equalizing voltage is the basis to ensure the long life of the battery. Ensure that the backward batteries in the battery pack are fully charged through appropriate overcharge. The use of this method should be limited due to overcharge of the battery pack. A single battery can be used for supplementary charging instead of equalizing charging. If the battery pack must be equalizing charged, the equalizing charging voltage must be selected in strict accordance with the regulations of the battery manufacturer.


(7) pay attention to the temperature compensation of floating charge voltage at ordinary times. Unreasonable temperature compensation will affect the service life of the battery.


The above methods shall be adopted according to the economic conditions and reliability of the system.


If the economic conditions permit, for the DC system requiring high reliability, a set of battery monitoring and management system with monomer detection and analysis and internal resistance measurement can be installed to comprehensively, continuously and accurately monitor the battery state.
