At present, there are two main types of valve-regulated sealed lead-acid batteries, namely, glass fiber separator cathode absorption sealed lead-acid batteries and silicon-gel sealed lead-acid batteries.

       The two types of battery plates are the same: the positive grid is made of lead-calcium-tin-aluminum quaternary alloy or low-antimony multi-element alloy, and the negative grid is made of lead-calcium-tin-aluminum quaternary alloy. And using a tight fit and lean liquid design, a one-way safety valve is set in the top cover of the battery. Due to the use of antimony-free lead-calcium-tin-aluminum quaternary alloy, the negative electrode hydrogen evolution overpotential is increased, thereby inhibiting the hydrogen evolution. At the same time, a special safety valve is used to maintain a certain internal pressure of the battery.

      The two battery separators are different: that is, two different ways to "fix" the sulfuric acid electrolyte, namely, ultra-fine glass wool (AGM) separator and silica gel. They both use the principle of cathode absorption to seal the battery, but the channels provided for the oxygen evolved from the positive electrode to reach the negative electrode are different. For AGM sealed lead-acid batteries, although most of the electrolyte of the battery is kept in the AGM diaphragm, 10% of the pores of the diaphragm must not enter the electrolyte. The oxygen generated by the positive electrode reaches the negative electrode through this part of the pores and is absorbed by the negative electrode.
